The face of images
Traduction of "Der Blick der Bilder" by Michael Cosgrove
Images as a manifestation of painting. Painting as a manifestation of images. Thinking in painting, of which the outcome is images. Thinking in
images whose fundament is the element of painting.
Cathy Jardon occupies this artistic space with powerful reflection. It is disconcerting that the choice of shapes and colours appears impulsive
and spontaneous whereas the features within the images suggest a highly elaborated work concept. But a second look at the paintings reveals the
moment of spontaneity. Shapes in particular and in general are related to one another in such a way that they constitute a compelling image which
would gain nothing from complex calculations.
The audacious assembly of a solid construction of forms, in association with complementary emotional work, gives a certain tension to the images
which allows us to imagine a dialogue between shapes that belongs exclusively to art and elements from the artist’s background. Also, the action
of creasing and creating reliefs that result in the perturbation of uniform form-structures has an important role to play. Form-argumentation,
both different, even opposed, unite in a surprisingly pertinent manner.
Equilibrium and non-equilibrium are auto-neutralised in the works. The entity gained from fragments of images, incarnates the mastery of form.
It is thus that a singular world of image is created, a world which converses with the history of abstract art.
The project of a wall of painting in reference to the dimensions transposed from the glass structure opposite holds the promise of more to come.
Modulating real space with “space-image”. The existing rough outlines of this approach can only heighten our expectations.
